Chris Grollnek Active Shooter Prevention Expert – Published

Chris Grollnek continues to give interviews as a leading active shooter prevention expert. Interviewed as expert in active shooter and workplace violence/risk mitigation specialist, Grollnek lays the foundation for self-preservation and corporate strategies for policy and procedure development. He was interviewed this week by a USA Today as an expert in Active Shooter and Workplace Violence topics. This marks the third interview in as many days. The interviews run approximately 1 1/2 hours on what schools can do to better educate administrators, teachers, and students for preservation of life. The training is not police or military related in action steps to take to stop a threat, to the contrary, its what to do if you get caught in that type of situation.

Preservation of life training can take over fight or flight and reaction methods can be taught and instilled. We also discussed recent events in Colorado and the Houston Public Safety Announcement released for public awareness regarding active shooter safety training. Great things are happening as one paper listed me as; “Resident of McKinney, Texas, Expert in Active Shooter Training for Civilians” was totally humbling to tell you the truth. As a retired police officer with an extensive background in active shooter training and actual experience in both police related active shooter events and one in a “civilian” capacity while on vacation with my family driving right into the middle of an active shooter event.

We discussed me making a PSA for schools and churches as well as directing one for public places. As stated earlier, one reporter found out I have real life experience in active shooting events from police and civilian experience. One while on the swat team taking fire at the front door of a residence and the other responding to an active shooter at the McKinney Police Department May 8, 2010.

The one that I was involved in as a civilian was when my family was on vacation in Florida last year while driving to Coco Beach Florida the day of the rocket launch from Cape Canaveral.

That day gave me the perspective as we drove right into the shooting area without knowing what was going on as it “just happened out of no where” and my instinct was to react to get my family to safety which is what we did. That incident gave me real time insight as to what civilians need to do and how to react with a trained response plan. I could have headed towards the shooter but realizing police were present, it was best to get to a place of safety for my family. I often ask others, what would you have done in that situation? The most common answer is they don’t know, so I discuss response tactics from a practical perspective that I lived through instead of the “police/swat” perspective. Having just graduated with a Masters Degree with my “capstone project” in active shooters one of the papers writing for a national publication lists me as “one of the most qualified experts in the country.” Having an education in the subject, being published in periodicals, experience teaching several courses over the years, and three active shooter events behind me I am understanding why they write these opinions, and I say that with a humble heart.
