Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Shoot Bank Robbery Suspect

A bank robbery suspect was cornered on a northern Los Angeles County cul-de-sac and shot to death Friday on television after he fired at sheriff’s deputies from his car. This can be seen on in the video just as officers unload into the front windshield of the SUV. The man died at the scene at around 10:15 a.m. right after live helicopter footage caught the incident in real time.

Deputies began chasing the SUV after a gunman robbed a Bank of America branch at 9:15 a.m. in Santa Clarita 35 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

The chase went for approximately 45 miles on a mountain highway into the Antelope Valley and along the way a spike strip flattened one of the suspect’s tires. After the suspect exited the highway in Lancaster he was forced to stop after turning down a dead-end road.

Sheriff’s cars blocked in the vehicle after it tried to turn around, and deputies ordered the man out. The man, wearing a camouflage, got out, stood by the door and appeared to toss money, but refused orders to show his hands.

Shortly after, the man then got back into the SUV and closed the door, a minute or so later a barrage of bullets sailed into the front windshield.
