Active Shooter Question and Answer

One of the Nations Leading Experts on Phenomena of Active Shooter Events and Prevention

Question from YouTube Viewer: What would your advice be to a person who is armed IE CWL holder who is in a active shooter situation? Obviously the escape is the first option, but how does one who is armed deal with the police response if they are forced to stay in the location of shooter? Obviously your going to have the firearm drawn and ready. Whats the best way to not be immediately fired upon by officers especially if they see you before you see them.

Answer from Chris Grollnek: Great question and thank you for asking.  This is tough but addressed in the video.  The police will not know who the shooter is and just because you have a permit does not mean you will be “capable” to take down a shooter unless of course you have above and beyond concealed closures training.  And even then, it is possible to lock up and then you could become liable for a mistake as each bullet fired is accountable for by the person who unleashed it, no matter their motive.  Good or bad, a stray is manslaughter in most cases so I always advise to error on the side of caution.  If you can and are trained to take action, use “sound” judgement.  If you are not, survive and make sure police know you are a good person when they arrive because they will see a gun at an event and shoot first and ask questions later if they believe they are “stopping” the threat. There are so many “blue on blue” shootings where uniforms show up and shoot plain clothes police because they don’t know who is who other than a person with a gun!   Thats what they were dispatched to do and they are not sure who you (or anyone reading this) may be…  Food for thought.  So if you carry, keep it concealed unless you have no choice and if you stop a shooter, drop your weapon and keep your hands up, if you are holding a weapon and police arrive, unfortunately, you become an instant threat as target discrimination is “the person with a gun” – period…  Hard to write but true to keep you safe! Thank you and all questions are welcomed to include feedback, Chris Grollnek
