Be a Public Speaker
You want to be a Public Speaker: Know why you’re asking what you’re asking. I’ve been receiving calls recently from people curious about public speaking, how to land gigs, how to prepare, and everything in between. Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of helping around seven individuals with this journey. And you know what stood out to me? Each one of them reached out asking what topics they should discuss. This made me realize something significant: many people believe that having a good idea is enough. They look for an easy route or a quick fix.
Here’s the reality: there’s no shortcut, especially when it comes to public speaking or doing something you think is a cool idea. Imagine stepping onto a stage and noticing that nobody’s paying attention, or maybe just a handful of people turned up for an event expected to be crowded. Or even more daunting, speaking to thousands in a country where no one understands your language. That’s pressure! Would you be able to stay motivated? How would you maintain your energy? And can you truly convey passion when unsure of what you want to express?
The real question to ask is: Why do you aspire to be a public speaker in the first place? If you don’t have a topic you genuinely care about or a message you’re excited to share, that changes things. However, that’s not really what I am saying here.
It’s about consistency and resilience. Don’t let anything or anyone sidetrack you. If you genuinely want to chase something, it’s up to you to pursue it with all your might. Be ready for the challenges, and don’t quit just because it’s tough. The truth is, if you’re dedicated, the obstacles become part of your journey rather than the finish line, and you have to love the bad as much as you want the good.
So, before you set out to pursue a good idea, take the time to make sure you know what you want and are ready to put in the effort to make it happen. If it’s your passion, your resilience will see you through.
By the way, this isn’t about public speaking…
